Attarintiki Daaredhi/ Attharintiki Dhaaredhi Meaning

Attharintiki Dhaaredhi? means "how am I to my mother in law's home?" or in other words "what's the way to my mother in law's home"?

If we look at word for word translation, Attha means mother in law, Illu means house, and hence, Attha+gaari+intiki=attharintiki.

Gaaru is used to show respect here.

When we add conjunctions to the above words, the word becomes attharintiki.

Dhaari means way. Yedhi means 'where' actually, but with the English usage, it'll be translated as What. [Where's the way = What's the way]

And hence, Dhaaredhi means "what's the way?" [Dhaari+yedhi=Dhaaredhi]

And so, it's What's the way to my Mother-in-law's home.

Satyaagraha or Satyagraha was a term coined by Mahatma Gandhi for his unique way of fighting against injustice without being violent. As such the meaning of the word doesn't mention non-violence, still the term is used for non-violent methods of protesting.

Literally, Satyagraha is made of Satya and Aagraha, the former meaning Truth and the latter meaning Request. So the meaning is literally 'Request for Truth'. The aagraha here is also used as insistence, though usually it's not used to that effect, and hence Satyagraha is called Insistence for Truth.

Either way, the word is not just limited to request or insistence for Truth alone, but is used as a way of protesting against any injustice in an active but non-violent way.

[The lines are important for, one, they're the lines of most favorite bhajan of Mahatma Gandhi, who began the system of Satyagraha (and coined the term), and here the protesters seem to follow his way, though partially. And two, the lines signify that the protesters are remembering their Gods and asking for Their support.]

Guide to the Trailer of Besharam

Abhinav Singh Kashyap, having created Dabangg, is here with his second film, with an outrageous name, Besharam. The trailer is out, and here we are with the funny trailer, and the nuances of it.

The trailer begins with Ranbir singing in 'Sarson de Khet' that is Mustard fields, a Yashraj favorite. To clarify the Yashraj connection, the song is none other than Tujhe Dekha to ye jaana sanam, Pyaar hota hai deewana sanam, in a Punjabified avatar, with the first two words of both lines translated to Punjabi.

Tainu vekhya to ye jaana sanam
Pyaar honda ae Deewana sanam..

The introduction of Babli, the hero says Badmaash, i.e. rogue, Awara i.e. vagrant, Robdaar, that is overbearing, which is almost exactly the same as dabangg in its meaning, and lastly hoshiyaar, that is intelligent.

The first dialog from Babli is 'Mere seene mein dil nahi dost, Jigar hai jigar. Aur wo kabhi toot-ta nahi. naanv aega Babli.' that is, 'In my chest there is no heart, it's Jigar there. And it never breaks. And the name is Babli.'

As such, jigar means liver, yes, Liver. But somehow the word in Bollywood has become synonymous with something that makes a person very powerful. Not yet sure where is the origin of this problem.


Then, there is a song, that does sound fine, and then the heroine enters with her first dialog when Babli says, "Lagda hai teri ragon mein khoon nahi, rabdi daud rahi hai rabdi.." [It seems in your body, there is no blood running, but milk cream.] And the heroine's dialog is what christens the hero as the film's title - "Tu na, tera naam hona chahiye tha Besharam!" [You, your name should have been shameless].

The next bit is one with Rishi Kapoor, Neetu and Ranbir, that is real life dad, mum and son, as Ranbir asks, "Hainji aap kaun?" [What, who're you?] To which Rishi replies in quite a Haryanvi tone, "Tera Pappa babua, Chulbul Chautala, ar yo teri amma Head constable Bulbul Chautala". He's not lying as they're actually his father and mother, but not in the movie, where the dialog is just to show some arrogance over the rogue boy.

The fun doesn't end here. Abhinav decides to give a tribute to his first film, and while he had named Rishi 'Chulbul' in this movie which is Salman's screen name in Dabangg, it's the dialog that says it all. When Rishi says "Are Babli Chhodunga na Tanne!" that is, Babli I won't leave you, Ranbir replies "Are khud ko to chhuDa le mote, sirf Chulbul naam rakh lene se koi Dabangg nahi ban jaata!" [First get yourself out fat guy, Just by naming yourself Chulbul, you don't become a Dabangg].

Now, yes, Abhinav has made a mention of Dabangg in a good way, which would be a positive towards Salman Khan and bros, he has at the same time not Named Salman explicitly and used the word Dabangg. Interesting.

The last scene with Javed Jaffrey comes from a Rajkumar Santoshi movie. I mean, not really, just kind of.

Javed puts a pistol on Ranbir's head and says, "Hamaare Dhandhe mein galti ki sirf ek sazaa hoti hai.." and Ranbir shouts, "Maut!" and follows it up with, "Mujhe kya pata nahi hai? Picture main bhi dekhta hoon bhaisaab!" that is 'Do I not know? Even I see movies, sir!'. Oh, the bhaisaab here is the one with contempt, where Babli is trying to prove that he's more intelligent than he's thought of as.

And then, there is an epilogue.

Ranbir: Jai lai.. [In Haryanvi tone, "Take this", while bringing out a sock from his pant, right next to his pen**.]

Amitosh Nagpal: Je kya hai yaar! [What is this?]

Ranbir: Padding! Ladkiyaan karti hain na, impression achchha jaata hai. [Padding! Girls do it na, the impression is good.]

I hope I need not say what impression he's talking about. ;)

Satyanveshi is Rituparno Ghosh's last film and is to be released after his death. The film is based on Byomkesh Bakshi who was a detective and used to call him Satyanveshi/ Satyanbeshi.

The word is made up of Sanskrit [and Bangla] words Satya, that is Truth, and Anveshan, which means investigation, search, discovery. Hence, Satyanveshi would be someone who searches for the truth, or discovers the Truth, or in short, Truth-seeker, as the character Byomkesh Bakshi calls himself.

Hum Bhole the is a Rocking rock song composed and performed by Indian Ocean for Satyagraha. The impassioned lyrics of the song are written by the man with a spirited pen, Prasoon Joshi. As for the praise of the song, there are just four words to be said. Do Not Miss It.

Here are the lyrics of the song with Translation. Most of those available on the web until now are wrong. I've tried to get it as right as possible. Still, if there is anything missing, let us know.

[The thing to notice here is that Bhola and bhaala are used together as bhola-bhaala where bhaala doesn't have any meaning and the whole thing means 'innocent' only.]

Satyagraha Music Review [Salim-Sulaiman, Aadesh, Meet-Anjjan, Indian Ocean]

Like before.

  • Prakash Jha is making a multistarrer on a socio-political subject.
  • Music is taken from many composers.
  • Aadesh Srivastava is one of them. So are Salim Sulaiman.
  • One song is taken from something everyone remembers. Vande Mataram to Raghupati Raghav.
  • There is one item number kinda thing.

Now, the things that don't come under these bullets.

First of all, accolades to Prasoon Joshi for writing magic throughout.

Salim Sulaiman have made Raghupati Raghav Raja Raam really well. After being out of touch for quite some time, their music comes out as good and effective as required. Of course, the base tune comes to their advantage, but the mixing of their own tune with it is not an easy task and they have done it in a way that the overall song sounds powerful.

Shivam Pathak does sound well, but towards the end, he sounds, well, Salim-ish. His energy is good, but he comes a little too much in 'Josh' towards the end. Still, he's not bad.

The next song begins with Shraddha Pandit singing Hamri Atariya pe aiyo balam ji to a nicely self-inspired melody*. She sounds okay here, but Salim-Sulaiman's arrangements seems to have got a little too much of electronica here, and so, despite the nice, slow melody of the song, it doesn't seem to work too well. The song could have been much better if the baansuri in the background was showcased a little more, and the like, if you know what I mean. Won't call this an experiment really as it sounds more like a remix already.

* Tune inspired by: Baawli si preet mori, ab chain kaise paaye, i.e. Rasiya, from Salim-Sulaiman's own Kurbaan. Begins on that note and diverts.

The next song is Aadesh's Ras ke bhare tore nain. I don't know much raagas, but I think this is not the regular thumri that comes in this name. Correct if I'm wrong. Anyway, Shafqat sings it nice, though Arpita's tirkit-dha in the background sounds like extras behind Hrithik Roshan, which here try to come to the front too! Not required really. At a point or two, the song very clearly becomes 'mora piya mose bolat naahi'. Now may be it's due to some raaga or tech thing, but whatever it is, it does remind you of the song. No issues though, as it sounds fine.

Next, Meet Bros Anjjan make a nice song as Janta Rocks, but voila! Did the music remind you of 'Stop That' by Devang Patel? And VERY much like Meri Aan, Meri Shaan, Meri Jaan Hindustan, that theme in Border? Other than that, the song is good, especially the part in Ashok Kumar's Jhumaritalayya style is just lovely.

The next song of the album is probably the best of the lot. Indian Ocean's Hum Bhole The is a passionate composition, well performed and rockingly sung by Rahul Ram, Amit Kilam and Himanshu Joshi. The lyrics and the music just complement each other in the song. Look for the interludes of the song too; lovely music there. In short, it's a must listen.

As such I don't believe in remixes, but Aadesh makes Ras ke bhare tore nain quite interestingly. The way he begins the song gets me attracted, and he's not bad overall. Interestingly, Arpita in background sounds better than in the original version here. It's all in the arrangements.

And may I just miss the atariya remix? It's not too bad, but it's too commonplace. Hence.

Overall, with one superawesome song [Bhole the], one really good song [Raghupati Raghav], one quite good song [Ras ke bhare], and one not bad song [Janta Rocks], Satyagraha is a good album, and does get you some feel of the movie. If you'd like to be a part of Prakash Jha's revolution, you can certainly buy it.

Thalaiva is nothing but the same as Thalaivar, which in Tamil means a leader, boss, and is spoken for Rajinikanth with respect, like 'sir'.

The word is shown in Chennai Express' Lungi Dance song which is supposedly a dedication to Rajnikanth Ji.
