After listening to the song numerous times and taking help from some very wonderful friends, we translated the Title Track of Mirzya. But then you know Gulzar saab's songs have layers and meanings that you sometimes figure out months after you heard the song for the first time. So we'd be much willing to accept any suggestions/improvements. Also, the song has its share of Punjabi as well, which I'm not too familiar with, so a special thanks to Mohit Kataria for helping with some lines of 'Sir.'

[Parwaah Nahin literally means 'no care' and doesn't specify whether it's singular or plural, and the same goes for the entire song almost. It may be 'I don't care', or 'we do not care.' Either would be equally correct.]

Befikre is Urdu and comes from 'Be-' meaning -less or without. Fikr is worry, and thus befikra (befikr in original, but often spoken as befikar or sometimes befikra) is someone who is without a worry.

Befikre is nothing but the plural of befikra and means 'those without worries.' As you might already have guessed from the first look and the song of the film, the characters in the film do seem to live up to the name, and are looking carefree about what the world might think. ;)

Aaj jaane ki zid na karo is a popular nazm written by Fayyaz Hashmi and sung by various singers of the Indian subcontinent. A common misconception about the nazm is that it's a ghazal, but ghazal is a specific format that has shers (couplets) giving it a 1-2, 1-2, 1-2 pattern, with the 2s rhyming, along with the first one.

Bulleya Meaning

Bulle Shah was a Punjabi philosopher and poet, who is considered a humanist, giving solutions to socialogical problems of the world around him. His poetry has been put to music by well known musicians like Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Abida Parveen, Wadali Brothers and Sain Zahoor.

Dama Dum Mast Qalandar and Mera Piya Ghar Aaya are two of the best known poems by Bulle Shah, and his verses have been adapted in Bollywood songs as well.

Rabbi Shergill's song Bulla ki Jaana was one of the most popular songs that used Bulleh Shah's name in the recent years. Since then, his name has been used in quite a few Bollywood songs as well, two of them called 'Bulleya,' one from the film Sultan and another from Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.

Bulleya is nothing but a way to call Bulleh Shah.
